Alice & Ginny | Pretty Deadly | 2015

About: Immediately after reading Pretty Deadly, Ashley Hay and I fell in love with the poetic story by Kelly Sue DeConnick and otherworldly visuals from the talented Emma Ríos. Planning a photoshoot was soon underway, although it would be nearly a year before we suited up as Alice and Ginny and drove hours out to the Salton Sea in southern California to shoot. We wanted to tell a story through the photos, culminating in Alice’s death in an explosion of butterflies (a practical effect via a fishing line harness), capturing exactly what makes the book so unique – finding beauty in death.
