Chi | 2008

Chi | Chobits | 2008

About: Chobits was an early anime favorite of mine; after watching the series at the recommendation of a friend, I knew Chi would be one of my first costuming endeavors. At the time I wasn’t very versed in crafting…anything. As such I ordered a dress and accessories online, intending to wear them to a local anime convention. When the dress arrived, I learned a valuable lesson in how online photos can be deceiving. I wasn’t a fan of the costume color, material, or fit – so I shelved the outfit for the better part of a year. After I had a few studio cosplay shoots under my belt, I decided to bring Chi out with some modifications to make it more flattering, although less screen-accurate. The thought was that a good creative team could shoot around the costume’s many flaws. Scott Walker and I collaborated together on the set, with makeup artist Konnie Yang bringing Chi’s fresh face to life. It was a very fun and playful shoot, with multiple outfits, accessories, and props. Overall I’m quite happy with the photos, despite the costume quality setback!
