The Heart | 2012
Camilla d’Errico’s “The Heart” | Original Interpretation | 2012
About: This costume was a last-minute addition to my SDCC 2013 roster, but one I’d been wanting to tackle for a couple of years. I’ve been a fan of Camilla d’Errico’s art for quite some time, drawn to the anime roots, surreal styling, and juxtaposition of organic and mechanical elements. Her odd amalgamations captivated me – the “Helmet Girls” series in particular. I loved the idea of cosplaying as a piece of art, as I’d never done it before and it seemed like a fun challenge. I browsed the full catalogue of her designs and settled on “The Heart” for her intricate yet industrial helmet, the delicate butterfly and her quizzical expression. Construction was relatively inexpensive, as I had most of the supplies at home, although I did pick up a few pieces from the plumbing department at my local hardware store.
Photography & Makeup: Photos by Elysiam Entertainment, Anna Fischer, Adam Patrick Murray, Jason Chau, Jwai Design, LJinto, and Chris Kwock.
Collaborators: Huge thank you to Michael Poon for kindly helping me install two RC car motors to make the helmet spin! Other Helmet Girls include Lisa Lou Who as The Egg Thief, as well as Sado Cosplays, Takumi Cosplay, and her lovely sister Tori!
